I used to leave my Fila at home and only travel for 48 hours or less and when I would get home all the food bowls and water bowls would be untouched. I tried to get a friend of mine who knew the Fila from puppy on up and my Fila would get upset if I let him give a bowl of food. My current Fila will take food from a stranger but she is old and has been exposed to 5 moves/homes in her lifetime.

You have never really experienced man's BEST friend, until you have owned a fila. The feelings, emotions and bravery these dogs show never cease to amaze. I have a male that unless he's really hungry, he won't eat unless the entire family is home, not just one of us. It's like he's saying "we eat as a family".

Aceoutdoor,
99% of the time we take all 6 of our Filas with us. We have a long bed truck and club cab so that we can. The kennels at home are used if we are traveling just my husband and I, or if we have bitches in heat. Periodically we put the dogs separate during the day so that they are not unaccustomed to the runs. I did board in the beginning with a hands off kennel, they didn't eat, but that's not the boarder's fault. They had run space and all. They ate when I got home. I imagine many breeds react the same and don't die from it. We were gone for 7 days. I don't feel it is breaking a bond, I feel it is like leaving my human children with care while the grown ups go for a special trip, it won't take their love away from us. Now, if someone is leaving for months on end it might be different, I've never gone more than a week so someone might have more insight. Traveling by plane might add something also, if I was in that position I would probably react. I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Dianna
