Not all puppy litters come out looking like carbon copies of each other. You get the occasional oddball that is not correct comformation wise. Color is a different story. That has to do with genes and traits. The black Fila appeared in the breed and has become easy to find now. It is hard to explain that in scientific terms. Unnatural selection, man, is the only real answer. There are probably some black Fila out there that show correct temp but the only one I have met did not act like a Fila. That is just one dog but I hear this often. If you like a dark dog then get a dark brindle from parents that are not black. If black is that important to you then consider an easier breed. I am not trying to start an argument with owners of black Fila. Like I said, maybe your black Fila has a correct temp. Owning A Fila is a way of life and you need to consider that more so than color. A Fila can keep you safe but it can also land you in Jail if you make a simple mistake. Great Danes are big and black, Rotties, etc.. Lots of breeds that can protect you with the preferred black color.

have some what? feddoc, can you please explain why that dog is a fila? the black color itself isnt why the pure bred black fila does not exist. It is the fact that a black dog called a fila did not emerge until the 1970s (where was this mystical creature since the make up of the breed?). Now the reason that the black fila is disqualified from the CAFIB standard is because of the obvious mix bred characteristics that it brings. While it is possible to find a black dog that may fit the standard its offspring will show signs of mix breeding and their offspring would as well...this is old news and for people to still be asking about this is like people asking for a "warlock doberman" or a "gatormouf" pitbull...people that ask for such thinds obviously have never researched the breed and should not be sold a dog. like Paul mentioned...get a great dane as that is probably what you would end up with if you wasted your money on a "black fila". By the way if you find someone with a black fila ask them to bring my unicorn back, he was my big foot's best friend and now swamp thing is lonely.

I didnt mean to jump down your throat...I have about 20 people a month asking me to help find homes for their Black filas or other wise mixed bred dogs...I say dont get one because 90% of the time they are not what you expect...I have one person now from California and she has a black dog with fila paperwork that she has to get rid off.. Ken are you interested? It is a black dog with a pedigree of a fila, it is very dog aggressive, not protective, is sensitive to noise (bad nervous system) and runs scared away from people...She was sold as breed quality...This is what you get with mixed bred crap...still want one or do you want me to talk you out of it?
