do females come into heat once a year? twice a year? or does it vary?

I didn't find this info in a search and am curious. it was kind of a pain in the butt going through the first one at 1 yr. of age (as far as dripping blood). Hope they come into heat annually rather than bi-annually.

Usually every 6 months or so, my female came into her 1st heat at 7 months ( December 2010) and came into heat again on April 17, 2011 so thats only 4 months. I think it varies from dog to dog.
I found the doggie diapers work well when their in the house.

It is usually 2Xs a year about every six mths. You can always spay your dog and viola! no more drips, lol.

The only breed I know of/and have owned, that comes in season once a year is the Basenji and world wide the majority is in October with December deliveries. My females (lucky me ) are on a 5 month schedule. That has been three b*%#@es in a row! So that is 2 - 3 times a year in my household. AND of course they are timed sequentially !!!
