Does feeding raw meat give worms and parasites? If I give any meat, I always make sure that it is cooked and that the bones are removed. I generally give dog food though because my Vet said to limit my dogs' intake of people food and to feed mainly dog food because it is healthier.

Another thing. Does feeding raw meat to a dog make them wild? I've always heard that if you give a dog raw meat it makes them crazy. I don't know if this is true because I've never given any of my dogs raw meat.

Can you feed cooked meat (without the bones) and just add in calcium powder. The Vet said that I can give the dogs calcium powder, but recommended limiting the intake of meat because it will still create a phosphorous/calcium imbalance.

    Any advice?

    Hey Candace,
Your vet is quoting what he was taught in vet school. The information your vet was fed was sponsored by the big pet food companies. Dogs/wolves in nature have no access to kibble. They eat meat and bone raw. A dogs digestive tract is Short and the stomach acids are designed to digest meat and bone. Before the advent of commercial kibble people fed their dogs left overs and raw. Feeding raw does not cause dogs to be wild any more than kibble. If you want to cook for your dog that is just fine (Never ever feed a cooked bone). Raw is still more natural for what the dog is designed to eat. Kibble brands often quote there food as producing less waste than other brands, ah ha that makes a bit of sense. Now compare what comes out of a dog when you feed raw and you will be amazed at how much dogs digest. A pound of raw produces a very small and clean stool that is a few ounces. Feed a pound of kibble and you'll get at least half a pound out the other end or more. Each and every meal a dog eats does not have to be perfect. When we eat do we have a complete meal? Most of us do not. Dogs in the wild will not get a perfect meal everytime they eat. I feed raw and sometimes I do not put all the supplements in the bowl I just give them the raw.

    I hope this helps.

    Paul,

Amen 'Brother'. You sound like you've read a lot of the same information I have.

Candace, for your store of reading material, take a look at our web page http://www.delalunakennel.com/inform...-what-we-feed/ and see what you think.

Thanks. I don't think I could ever feed meat that isn't cooked...that seems disgusting. Can you feed cooked meat (boneless) and add in bonemeal powder for calcium? Also, do you have to mix in vegetables or can you just give the meat? I've tried making food for my dogs that included cooked vegetables and they won't eat them. If I were to continue feeding dog food, does anyone know which brand is the best? The Vet told me that Science Diet was the best, but the people at the pet store said Innova was the best. Right now I feed dry food that I buy at Costco. I also mix in canned Pedigree food because the dogs seem to like that.

  6. Science Diet is one of the worst you can feed. Is you vet selling it?

Science Diet is not good. Taste of the Wild is good. Even Diamond Naturals is better than Science Diet.

Well, doing some research i learned that the dogs digestive system have trouble processing the cellular walls of certain veggies such as corn. i feed my fila a mixture, in the morning i feed him chicken, at noon i feed him kibbles (about 150g) at about 4pm i feed him kidneys and at night i like to either give him a little bit of kibbles or a large chicken thigh.
