    Piebald Fila???

A friend of mine decided to get a Fila after hearing about mine. He ended up getting a piebald. I told him I have never seen or herd of a piebald Fila. I even called someone from Ipanema and he told me no it is just a Fila/St.Bernard cross. People do that crap all the time but growing up in Brasil he said that is not a normal color for a Fila. A lot of talk about the Black Fila but does anyone have a piebald Fila? or an Irish Marked Fila? I see in the color section that white is only allowed on the feet, chest and tip of tale. I have been out of the Fila world for a couple years so mabe things have changed? Thanks

  2. white markings in filas are not unusual at all , especially in some of the older lines. A true piebald is unusual but it does occur sometimes... one of the girls on this group had a litter of them a year ago - very beautiful dogs.
My own dog has alot of white on him , as did some of his littermates... he is from old & pure lines - no crossbreeding in them.

Thank you for the response. I have no desire to debate this or knock piebald Fila's. I am just curious. Your Fila is more on the lines of an Irish Marked or piebald? It looks to me Irish Marked but that deosn't make your dog a Fila. Your dog looks like a Fila and the Fila temp would be expected out of a dog like yours. Again, thanks for the response AND I am JUST curious.

    Hey Paul,

you read the CBKC standard, the CAFIB standard allows for more white on different parts of the body. a "piebald" fila does not fit in either standard, while it is true that one can get alot of white by mix breeding with other breeds other characteristics of the other breed would be aparent as well. there are some true filas that are piebald but their color disqualifies them.

hey Paul - I also think Sully has Irish Spotting markings, as well as my dogs. Why a true-bred fila would be disqualified over their
coat color is one of those dog fancy mysteries to me..
