Yes, That is true as well. I forgot about the expensive one thay are actually cheap quality. Every so often a new person gets "duped" by this old scam, one must becareful to avoid this. This is how it works, first the backyard breeder knows that anyone that is serious about buying a Fila would not even consider the $500 dog so he has a litter and advertises them for $2000. What he does next is nothing short of genius....anyone paying that type of money wants proof that the dogs are worth that so he takes pictures of his dogs winning fake trophies from non existant shows or he will take a photo of trophies that he never won and post them as his. The new person will see all this, get excited thinking that they are not only getting a purebred fila but also from champion lines...nothing is furthur from the truth, what they get instead is a mixed bred animal full of worms and parvo with a slew of genetic deseases and disorders that stem from inproper inbreedings. There is only one way to avoid this BYB, do your research, ask other breeders about his credentials and never pay 2Gs for a pup, lol.

I bet there are some fila owners that breed a dog (as a novice not familiar with many things including marketing the dogs) and are then hard pressed to sell the pups because they lacked experience to do so (not everyone wants a giant dog particularly one with special characteristics that they can read about on any google search of the breed and the breeder should be telling them about)...if they don't sell them fast enough they will surely eat a lot (better to cut their losses and dump them for low price). Someone told me they knew of people in this situation that went so far as to want to give the pups away as they start to look "grown".

yea but do you really want a dog from a breeding like that? Cheap is expensive! I say buy a dog with a good pedigree that has been bred and weaned properlywith the proper health testing and you will never have to say "I wish I would've just saved up the money and got one from that breeder instead".

Breeders should guarantee the health and temperament of their puppies. Extremely unlikely you will get either in a $500.00 fila puppy. Ave price for a companion (no breeding) is $1000.00-$1500.00. You may not receive papers for your non breeding puppy until you spay/neuter. This is because FCI has no registration classification for non breeding dogs. Speaking only for myself, I do not give reg papers out for my puppies until I receive proof of spay/neuter. I do not grade my puppies "breeding vs pet" because I prefer they all be sold as pets rather than potential breeding stock. I have worked for many years to create my lines and am not comfortable letting the dogs go out to just anyone for breeding purposes. I have no control over what is done with my genetics, maybe this is my issue. Anyway, my advice is that anyone seriously interested in breeding should buy the very best 1 year old female thay can find, complete with hip/elbow xrays and not begin with a puppy. For more info you can visit my website www.cariocadogs.com Good luck in your research.

  5. You are writting about the typical BYB (Back Yard breeder) If for some reason my puppies didnt sell, I am fully prepared and capable of keeping them until homes are found. No one should "dump" puppies, nor should they breed if they cant face the fact that sometimes there will be pups around at 3, 6 or even 1 yr later. I feel very srongly about this- breeding any dog is a lifetime commitment. Too bad more people dont feel this way.
