Hello! Proud part of those who have the BEST dogs!
Hello! My name is Jennifer and I have owned two Filas, one passed away in November from a very rare leukemia. He was my first fila and I had been originally looking for a Mastiff. I saw an ad for "Fila Mastiff" and researched the breed, decided that was the pet for me (I've owned many different breeds) and got Yogi at what I know now was probably a backyard breeder. He was dog aggressive at times (I had about 5 fights over either food or excitement) and only ended up being 106 lbs, which from what I've read from the breeders and owners on the other sites I visited is kind of small for a male. But you could EASILY see the bulldog in him. He did have other traits of the fila and some that were not. I don't think he was a full bred fila. I will post pictures when I can. He is the one that passed away. He was only 5. It ripped my heart out.
But now it's just my two kids and my Murphy. He is 165lbs and 5 years old. I'll post pics of him too but he is a fawn with the black on the ears, eyes and muzzle. He's so beautiful! He is a wonderful dog and the BEST pet I have ever had! He is loyal to a fault! He hates riding in the car but if it means he gets to go with us, he wants to go every time. He has never been one to run off or stray from my voice or line of sight. I got him when he was 6 months old (my present to me for my 30th birthday) and he is everything I would ask for. He is papered but only "pet quality". He fits about 95% of the fila characteristics, but he is VERY LAZY. For awhile we lived out in the country and no fences. He never would go out and run. He has always gone out, done his business and wants back in because he wants to be close to us. I bought a house in town with a large fenced yard and tried to leave him outside while I went to the grocery store. WELL.............even though I was gone he ate through part of the door trying to get in. I think he's part house cat!
Anyway just wanted to say "hello" and I'm looking forward to reading about others who have the pleasure of having a Fila in their family!
God Bless!
