So far, my male Fila has run up a considerable bill.....haha

Paid $1200 for him. Food, for two, now that we have his mate, is about $400 a month. Pre-lim Xrays, vet checks, vitamins..... it all adds up.

However, nothing compares to the 'Hooch' job our male did on my wife's Expedition. We had some folks out to our house to do some warranty work. The male, about 7 or 8 months old at the time, was put in the Expedition while my wife walked workers around the outside of the house explaining the warranty work. She went around the house two times. He's kinda funny about just how close he lets people get. Out in town, away from the car...about 40ft. is his comfort limit for people to approach. In the car, he hates it when people walk by within sight. Or drive by when we are in traffic. That car is his.

I've raised chows for many years, and have nothing but good to say about them. They too are great watchdogs. I decided to go with Fila's just for a change to a more athletic dog.

During cooler weather, the two wouldn't so much as leave a nose print.

This time, however, the male decided he needed to be with my wife to protect her. In trying to get out, he did $6700 damage to the interior of her car. Almost blew each of the front seat airbags. He was just plain mad that he wasn't allowed to do his job.

Nope, I don't regret getting either of them.

Wow--- I am sure your wife is not too pleased with the dog. Give the dog a marrow bone (uncooked-so it doesn't splinter) next time he has to be without her, that kind of chewing is usually anxiety driven, and obviously he was anxious to chew on something ( or someone ).I had a Banddogge, that ate the enterior, seat belts and all of my 71 Caddillac, because I left him there while I was talking with a client going over an estimate, the client was a talker, and the Dog not too patient.

Every other time we have left him alone in any vehicle, he does nothing except sleep. Wife wasn't too happy at first, but, she does love that dog. Kinda neat to watch him play with the rabbits and the cats. He tried chasing quail, but that didn't work out so good.

Mine is an extremely aggressive protector of our home and cars, but I can take him anywhere and he is very docile, for a Fila. Thankfully he is not a chewer. And does not chew even on toys. Bones only. Although recently he baadly bit my 13 year old stepson. The dog does not like him, never has, and the child went into his area of the yard, jumped a 6 foot railing to do so. I am not suggesting the child deserved to be bitten, I feel horrible about it, but the dog did not seek out the child to bite him. Out of curiousity, where did you purchase your pup.

wow $400 for food... stop giving them 24 karat nuggets, lol. I am like you though, I spare no expense when it comes to my dogs I even hide the food bills and vet bill from the wife and pay for everything in cash so she doesn't see it. I got her x-rayed on her hips, elbows and patellas and i flew her down to Brazil to get CAFIB approved and to get bred (didnt take) then I did an AI with her (finally took, 9 pups), lol. My friends call her the million dollar dog so trust me I know what it is like. Now I got the dogs including the 9 pups in my house because it is just too damn hot to have them outside, they are my babies and if it too hot for me it is definitely too hot for them! Show pictures of you babies.

I saw your puppie pics. Any pics of mom and dad? They are too cute, I love the new born wrinkle faces, like little old men.

What are you asking for them? I do have a question for you, it is not meant to be insulting, but I was reading the "Breed Standard" and it says that mouse grey is not acceptable for show or breeding. Which leaves the mousy grey as a pet. Which is fine because considering I am having some major Fila issues (Oscar and I have not been seeing eye to eye, he wants to eat my stepsons,we are working on it)and would never consider breeding the dogs, are the grey ones cheaper?? I know I should not even be considering another Fila until my boy starts liking my other boys, but they are addicting.

    Gissella and Oscar,

LOL, not insulting at all! You are right "mouse grey" is not to the breed standard however I dont have any that color. The one that looked silver during the first couple of weeks is now a beige/blonde color which some call "champagne" or others may call it "baio", whatever your preference. He has turned out to be one, if not the nicest male in the litter. I will post some more pics of the litter soon, maybe today and you will see what I am talking about. I almost thought he was going to be a "cinza" because of his coloring while young I do have a reddish fawn male that I am not too sure how he will turn out, super sweet and playful and may sell him as a "pet" only. I will post the pics when I get new ones and you tell me what you think.

    Thanks,

    Juan

Also let me know if you need help with that male and your stepson, perhaps we can discuss other training tips that you may not have thought about yet. I would hate to see this relationship between you, your family and you dog go sour.
