Welcome to my world. How old are the dogs in question? Things do change with age. In general, a week before the bleeding the flirting begins. Then you have 12 days of high heat and then the bitch will start to be less flirty and the boys calm down. If you are lucky maybe two weeks of the panting and noise making and not eating. Often this last three weeks at my place sometimes even 4. If you allow the male to be all over the bitch during heats the males will be even worse. If your male is not eating normally, make sure you feed him far away from the bitch so that he can't even see her. Give him some time to digest. I have males that will regurgitate food for the bitches in heat and they will carry their food to the bitches and offer it to them if they can. I have outdoor kennels so this helps. Fun Fun Fun....Also, the bitches can act a bit strange during heats. Not a good time to introduce a dog to a kid it rarely sees or take to the vet. Some bitches get a bit skiddish, aggressive, etc...Nesting is normal so if she is digging a lot that is normal.

LOL, your case isnt even so bad, my neighbor has 4 female dogs, the house in the front has 2, in my street there is about 15 dogs most females and none of them tied, every month one of em is in heat.

thanks for for the heads up....she started bleeding 8 days ago but the crazed stuff has only been going on for last 2 days so far...they normally stay in house so we are having to shuffle them around either to stay upstairs or outside in the pickup to keep them apart. I really hope it turns out to last less than 3 weeks that would be horrible if it goes that long. they both have lost appetite for last day. I am going to get the female fixed after this to avoid the pain since she is not good breeding material anyhow. I do have a kennel outside but I need to put a cover on it and also place some concrete blocks along edges so they can't dig under it.
